Honestly, the scale of AI makes a lot more sense to me than the scale of DeFi or even the scale of some database systems. AI is simple - you have a unit of hardware that can perform a desirable form of computation. Scaling it up is a matter of creating parallel systems and upgrading to faster hardware when it's made available.
By comparison, I've seen six-figure monthly cloud spend at traditional startups and had genuinely no idea where the bulk of expenses were going even when I was looking right at the AWS dashboard.
