These are national forests, not the national parks Roosevelt is famous for. There is already logging in national forests, heavily controlled of course. This proposal to increase logging is not entirely new - the Biden administration was considering changing national forest logging for the same reason, to reduce wildfire risks in the Pacific Northwest. The Trump administration is basically doing a more aggressive version, in part to offset all the timber imported from Canada and China.
